"Wings of Hope" Golf Classic

General Greer to be honoree at "Wings of Hope" GOLF CLASSIC on September 7th at Sierra View Country Club

Lee Greer, who retired as a Major General and the Commander of the Sacramento Air Logistics Center will be the deserving honoree at the fourth annual "Wings of Hope" golf classic will be held at the Sierra View Country Club on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010.

General Greer has been the founder and impetus behind the Golf Classic which has raised well over $100,000 dollars in recent years. Lee's love of golf and charismatic leadership have led to growth of a consistent pool of Community of Partners who have shared in his benevolent mission. "Wings of Hope" is by far the major fundraiser for Chapter 116 which has been named "Best AFA Chapter in California for six years, many of which while General Greer was the President.

The proceeds fund not only the the outstanding scholarship program but also the military family support programs. The helicopter ball drop will not be featured this year but the classic will feature a raffle and live auction. "Old" friends, new friends and acquaintances of Lee are encouraged to participate not only as sponsors, but supporters and players. Big Opportunity For Computer-Savvy Schools

By Dick Stultz, AFA Chapter 116 President

The 2010 CyberPatriot competition kicks off nationally. With Intel, Apply, Hewlett-Packard and other high tech industry in the Sacramento area, it would seem that our area is ripe to develop high school teams to enter into the national CyberPatriot competition.

Chapter 116 has just established links with the local SAIC organization which had been the presenting sponsor of the prototype competition in 2009.

I encourage everyone who reads this to consider the schools, teachers and students in your area to step up and get your computer whizzes focused into this rapidly developing program.

One of the most exciting AFA initiatives ever takes a big step May 13th with the rollout of The National High School Cyber Defense Competition CyberPatrio and the announcement of Northrop Grumman as the Presenting Sponsor.

Registration for CyberPatriot will opened only to those who will enter a team or who plan to coach but if you have a JROTC of any service, a high school, or a Civil Air Patrol unit that you know is interested, you can provide them this page.

Registering does not commit them, but it is the first step required for anyone who wants to participate. The competition is limited this year to 500 teams from all-service JROTCs and CAP, plus 500 teams from non-JROTC/CAP high schools.

Ever stand in long lines for food or drink? Wished you could get off the 125 degree tarmac and just sit down? Wanted to be able to hear the announcer or be closer to the centerline and see what transpired on the other side of the crowd? Wanted not to park and walk two miles from your parking spot? Solve that with kids, or your working buddies with front row seating, food, drink, VIP parking, and all while contributing to help our wounded warrior family members at the AFA Air Show Chalet, 11-12 September.
